Only TWO weeks to go until Strikeforce’s Bantamweight Championship “Tate VS Rousey” !!
Why so excited? While men’s MMA is fast becoming mainstream TV programming available weekly if not nightly, women’s MMA has been fighting for acceptance and credibility.
Saturday March 3rd they get that chance. The card features the “Tate VS Rousey” title fight and number one contender Sarah Kaufman in the number one contender fight “Kaufman VS Davis”. Yes, you read that right.
Rousey the 4-0, 145lbs rookie dropped a weight class and landed an immediate title shot. Both Tate and Kaufman were not happy, but outspoken Rousey (possibly using a stolen copy of Chael Sonnen’s playbook) has taken every opportunity to create interest and stir up controversy. I thought everyone was under her spell.
Only when discussing the upcoming fight with a few casual MMA fans did I realize how many were unaware of all the intrigue surrounding this event. Unfortunately most questions about women’s MMA still revolve around fighter turned Hollywood actress (Gina Carano) or the fighter that looks like she could destroy the Terminator (Cyborg). After explaining the mini soap opera leading up to this fight, everyone is as excited as I am to see what happens next.
So with that in mind I created this infographic to help you with your explanation.
